Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hello everyone, I’m expecting my second blood test results tomorrow but have a question in advance for you all. I’ve read that misdiagnosed anaemia can lead to a diagnoses of type 2 diabetes; is this true, do any of you have experience with this? Do the levels always have to be over 100 in a hba1c for this to be considered or have any of you questioned it yourselves if you’ve had doubts when it’s been lower than recommended levels?
I understand that it may actually be type 2 in my case but I have been tested for anaemia in the past and having read about it, it would make more sense for this to be the outcome of my diagnosis. (Not that I want either but this makes the most sense)
I understand I need to talk to my doctor about this but just wanted some reassurance from the friendly community on here too.
Thank you

If you have had a HBAC , I would have thought you had a full blood count as well and that would flagged up aneamia. I had not heard of anaemia been mistaken for Diabetes, anaemia can give an error some HBA1C. HbA1C for diagnosis is a result over 48 and the gold standard is for 2 tests at diagnose.

I have been type 2 for 10 years and on 1500mg metformin. Just been told I am anaemic. B12 and folates are fine. GP has decided to send me for an Endoscopy!! I am terrified. Has anyone else had anaemia and Type 2 diabetes. My Hbc1a had shot up from 60 to 74 in five months with no change in diet??
