Learnt something this morning

Got up and thought I will just mow the lawn while I decide what to have for breakfast ? back lawn mowed then front lawn half mowed and thought I feel funny, then I thought I feel very light headed ? even drunk - totally smashed even ? grabbed 2 slices of multi seed batch loaf and a cup of tea -- stinking head ache ? moral of this tale -- do not mow the lawn before breakfast --

Did you test yourself Andrew? If you were having a hypo then some fast-acting sugar would be better than bread as you need to bring your levels up quickly. Hope your headache doesn't last long! 🙂

I would never attempt to mow the lawn without having had some food first. this seems to be one task that causes me to hypo!🙂

No I have not been testing

Hi

No my Dr has said that I do not need to test --- however a friend who I did not know was diabetic is sending me a tester and box of supplies.he posted it saturday.

I did not hink of having any fast acting sugars I have convinced myself that such products are bad for me!

I did and I learnt something this morning

Hi While I have learnt not to do it again, I am also wondering about my canoeing kit -- what to add to it,

Although we need to consider hypos as diabetics, I am also wary of undertaking any activity without having a small snack (a slice of whole meal toast or some fruit) first.

A number of people also feel ill if they do not eat before doing anything first thing in the mornings too.

Better still, let your other half mow it:D

I've learnt the hard way to carry a snack and something sugary with me in my kit as I'm currently have frequent hypos - fortunately not really bad ones. I usually have a few jelly babies tucked into a zip lock bag and a meusli bar or something similar as well. It's good your pal is sending you the gear to test with, I'm convinced testing has value, no matter what type you are.

Snacks

I have yet to determine what a reasonable snack is, for years I have been keeping Dunn's River nourishment in my canoeing kit- comes in a can 408 cal in 400g www.nurishment.co.uk rather than chocolate, it has worked for me -- but I am not sure about using it out side of canoeing -- when I had a very bad head ache while i was out a couple of weeks ago it was all that was in my van so i drank it head ache gone in min utes!! (or at least that was my perception)
