Hi

I was diagnosed type 1 in 1978. Been on Humalog + Lantus for several years with plenty of ups and downs over the years.

Currently taking things more seriously than I have for many, many years following some minor eye lasering. Also trying to lose about 5lbs from the midriff so lots of testing and adjusting of insulin to suit healthier meals with huge support from my girlfriend who is still getting used to the finer details and occasional sulking by me !

hi Rob and welcome to the forum x🙂

Hi Rob, welcome to the forum 🙂 Great to hear that you are working hard to improve things. We have quite a few members with long term experience - looking forward to reading more about you 🙂

Hi am64 and Northerner.

Thanks for the welcomes. We're waiting to see a dietician so we can get the latest info on the GI diet.

For my first few years I had a steel and glass syringe with reusable needles. Them were't'days !

Sounds like one of my poems, 'Diabetic Days of Yore' :D

There are some good recommendations for GI/GL books in the Recommended Books section - one I found good was http://www.diabetessupport.co.uk/boards/showthread.php?t=7337

Hope things go well with dietician! 🙂

Cheers Northerner.

We'll be wanting a book or two I would imagine to refer to.

I'll update once we get the summons from the dietician.

Rob

Cheers Steffie.

Good to find somewhere so friendly.

Hi Rob welcome to the forum! I was diagnosed in 1991, great to have another long termer amongst us!

Just to give you a heads up, I see you're in north Wales, we're having a meet up in Birmingham on September 18th if you fancy coming along!

Hi shiv. Thanks for the welcome.

Sadly (although happily too!), we're in the far top-left corner so most of the world is a long way away for us, but I'll be watching the threads for any gossip. I've only been to a couple of diabetes group meetings before so would be nice one day.

You've got the place !!

Only lived here for 7 months so still finding my way round but it does have a few hills dotted about. Compared to Snowdonia, it's fairly flat mind you !🙂

Anglesey is the only place I've been to in Wales (apart from the drive through the bit to get there!) I did some work for Anglesey Aluminium in the early 1990s - are they still there? Really enjoyed my visits there! 🙂

Yes, they're still there but there were some worries over the new power station (Wylfa B) being approved to keep them going. If it didn't get the go-ahead, they would have been in trouble.
Thankfully, depending on your view of nuclear power, it got approved.

It is a lovely place to be and we can watch the ships passing by for Liverpool.
