There could yet be hope for those who live in fear of getting a filling, as a new painless cavity drill is set to hit dentists' surgeries.
The hi-tech 'plasma brush' can hollow out rotten teeth in just 30 seconds, with only a slight cooling sensation for the patient.
It uses chemical reactions to disinfect cavities before operations, and forms a bond on the tooth which is much stronger than current techniques.
This means that fillings will much last longer than before, a huge boost for dentists and patients as currently many stay in place for just a few years.

I've got fillings that are older than ypauly! 😱

Exactly, "currently many stay in place for just a few years" - by implication, some stay in place for longer than a few years.

I'd be changing my dentist if mine only stayed put for a couple of years.

OTOH my sister has grot teeth that alamlgam or white fillings don't stick to and ever since she got her adult teeth - only gold fillings have ever worked for her! She got a whole lot done when she was a 'nursing mother' ie before her daughter was 2, so then it was free.

So it could be good news for folk like her, which we've always assumed was because of lack of whatever when ma was preg and sis was a baby - she was born in 1946 so we expect the War took it's toll.
