Relationship to Diabetes

Hey up guys, haven’t been on here for a while now. Hope everyone is doing well, Hba1c level 97 (2017) 41 (2017). I’m currently waking up with highs without eating. Any ideas why??

I have just ordered my continuous glucose monitor and now looking to get a insulin pump. This is due to problems injecting. I find it extremely hard.

Diet- is there any particular diet that’s going to achieve great blood control and weight loss. Are diet pills (grenade) ok to take with diabetes.

Any advice would be appreciated guys.

What are you eating for your evening meal and what are your levels like when you go to bed? How long after eating are you going to bed? How high is high on waking up?
There could be a number of reasons, it could be that your evening ratio isn't correct, it could be that you need more basal, unless we know slightly more about the situation we cant offer advice
Also as for diet many follow a low carb diet and maintain it very well but as for any non diabetic a healthy balanced diet is just as important to us x

Have you ever set an alarm for 3am and checked what your levels are then? ( though if you're getting a continuous glucose monitor, you'll be spared that) When I got my Libre, I discovered that my levels are fine til about 4-5am, then they start rising as my liver kicks in and starts pumping glucose out ready for the coming day. I've never found a solution, I just live with it, and inject some short acting as soon as I wake up, and it doesn't affect my HbA1c too much. Of course, having a pump would help, as you can vary the basal rate to take account of a dawn rise.

Well of course you haven't found a solution Robin - there isn't one! - because it's one of those autonomous things the body automatically does whether we want it to or not, we don't have any option.

Some T2s with a working pancreas may be able to ameliorate its effect on them but since we no longer produce sufficient insulin to have any useful effect, we can't.

If it's a large rise and you don't have breakfast rather quickly after getting out of bed, you could try a small correction on waking/testing - but I'd be very very cautious with the dose if I had to do it.

The good thing is if you can show your clinic the CGM graphs that prove you have problem areas in your BG, it's useful to be able to demonstrate it can't be corrected with MDI. However, what have you tried - changing the timing of basal jabs, trying different insulins - what?

Sure Grenade pills are fine with your diabetes. Then again, you could save money and reduce weight by slightly reducing your carb intake.
