Always thinking about food.

Yup. Problem is im acting it on it this month. Not good.

I often think about food but don't mind. It may be planning what I am going to eat later or what I need to buy or maybe cooking it.
If I am using calories to walk to the shops and carry my raw ingredients home then use calories to make the food (especially if I am kneading bread or doing lots of chopping), I don't feel any guilt about eating any of it.
The only problem is if I stuff myself with convenience food and snacks straight out of the packet which I very rarely do.

That's a positive way of looking at it.

Caving into the cravings. It's not hunger related. I just *need* to. Eat. All. The. Food.

I got back off holiday on weekend and now having to decide on what to do for meals has sent me totally off kilter. Ah well tomorrow is another day.

Does anyone else feel like all they do is think of food?

No but I've been there when I was dieting.
The problem for me was that I wasn't eating enough so I was never full and also I wasn't keeping myself busy enough so I had time to ruminate.
In retrospect, I should have eaten a sensible normal diet and exercised more to get the weight off - hill walking and things like that.

@helli is right - take pleasure in food 🙂 Focus on positive things eg eating more veg, trying new recipes, whatever it might be. Yes, we have to think about food more, but we can use some of that thinking and planning time for positives. Adding those makes planning and counting less of a chore as that just becomes part of the process not the whole focus.

Could be worse - you could be thinking of drink all the time! I find walking early in the morning helps, if you have put the effort in your less inclined to want food or mess up your effort

I certainly have periods where food becomes pretty all-consuming, and not always is a very healthy/good way :(

I have certainly heard that a diagnosis with T1 is pretty-much a prescription for disordered eating. Have you ever had a chance to get any psychological support for the challenges of living with your T1? Not all clinics promote this, but most have at least some capacity for extra support and advice.

Awwww :( Big hugs to you @EllsBells. Sorry you are having such a tough time right now. But you’ve done amazingly over the months. You can do this! Tomorrow is a new day

Nowt wrong with thinking about food, after all its pleasurable experience & something to look forward to, definitely worse things to have on mind put it that way.

Sounds like you might be hungry, are you sure you're eating enough?

I enjoy eating. When it is my week to cook (we take it in turns) I enjoy planning around whatever we have on during the week. The only adaptation we have made in response to T1 is to reduce our portion sizes in order to reduce this post meal spikes. Otherwise we eat much the same, and have become very knowledgeable about the carbs in what we eat. I still snack on things that are less healthy but then try to match them with a bit of exercise to ‘use it up’.

Match your insulin to what you chose to eat @Ali11782
I hope things get easier or you @EllsBells

I don’t find it very pleasurable when I am fully in control of the diabetes. It becomes a very samey and boring experience as I am so fussy with foods. I’m happy when I can indulge myself on the foods I love (all of which are terrible for the diabetes).

every living species thinks about food all the time. Us lot planning meals, counting carbs, and testing bg's. Watch the ducks after bread the kids have thrown them. Seaguls & icecreams, seals chasing fish, i could go on and on. Think of healthy food and not all the junk thats advertised everywhere.

Before my diagnose I was always thinking about food , now since I’m low carb and I’m moving more I’m rarely snacking and I drink more water and I’m honestly not hungry at all. If I am snacking it’s eggs, cheese or nuts . But I’m retraining my brain that I don’t need to eat all the time . The 3 big meals breakfast, lunch and dinner is enough but also I found out I’m probably also not eating enough either so I upped the food (still in low carb) and I’m fuller and have more energy . I’m still learning everything and I’m still technically not officially diagnosed either , well not til next month anyways . But I been put on merform at 500 mg 1 per day slow release and im going fine . But yes I was always a sucker for thinking of food .

What a positive post, when I think back to the first posts you were putting on here, you have come a long way. I'm sure that it will provide lots of inspiration to some of the new folk here.
Even with still some uncertainty about your diagnosis you are motivated and positive so you must be feeling much better.

Well said, another way of looking at things.
