The 'office' is upstairs (spare bedroom). I was in office on computer, husband downstairs watching TV. It was Friday afternoon and he was bringing me up a cup of tea. I asked if he could also bring me up a new bolus pen. When he brought it he asked if it would last the week end because it was my last one and I had better order more. So I did this immediately. He watched me putting the request in. I thought I should be fine as I still had a bit left in the current one, and then that one would see me well into the following week.

Saturday evening I ran out of the current one and went to start the new one. I often bolus straight after a meal because there have been so many times I felt as if I would eat a horse but end up eating only half, or vice versa. I tried and tried and tried and I just could not get the new pen to work. That meant no insulin until Monday evening or even Tuesday and BG going up already.

I tried to phone the chemist I use but they were constantly engaged. I telephoned 111 who told me they had to contact the emergency doctor (it was about 8pm) who will contact me within two hours.

I tried the chemist again and managed to get through. He said he would give me a pen but someone would have to come and collect it. My husband said he would. I gave him the one which was not working and off he went. I phoned 111 back and told them to cancel the call.

I got a phone call from the chemist - it is working perfectly. So embarrassed. I had tried everything and I could not make it turn. What was even more embarrassing was the chemist trying to tell me how to use a pen.

Eventually husband came back with the 'not faulty' pen and a spare that the chemist had given him.

He then tells me "I do not know what the panic was all about as you have a spare one in the fridge" I really do not know which of us is losing it lol.

Phew! Panic over. Aaaaaaaaand relax!

Oh dear Lilian, sorry you got in a pickle, glad it alll got sorted for you 😉
