It never rains but it pours. Three times in the last 2 weeks my face has swelled up - some sort of allergic reaction. Today my tongue swelled and 111 sent an ambulance. I have spend the entire day in A and E with the outcome being they have no idea what caused it. Could be one of the medications I am on but who knows! As I am on 3 medications it would be difficult to find out which one. I was told to go back when it happens again! Funny thing was I was told to see my GP tomorrow......couldn't get one today when I really needed one, don't think there is much chance of getting one tomorrow!
I was given steroids and now have a blood sugar of 12.8 seems quite high after just one dose but who knows. Also have a very sore finger from where they used a dagger to prick my finger....honesty the lancet must have been 2mm thick! My finger is red and swollen....ouch!!!

Unfortunately Steroids often raise Blood Glucose. If this is something that you need to take long term, then perhaps your GP can find one which affects your BG less?

Yes steroids can be pesky blighters BG-wise

Sorry that after all that time in A&E you got less than perfectly clear account of that is going on. Forgive me, but the ”go back when it happens again” did make me chuckle! It reminded me of Tommy Cooper standing on stage at the Royal Variety or something, and saying:

I went to my Dr and said “It hurts when I do this” [raises left arm sharply above his head] and he said, “Don’t do it then!”

Hope you manage to get a GP appointment.
 
Ring the GP, tell the receptionist what happened today, tell her A&E told you to see your GP and obviously something needs to change before it's third time unlucky, so how soon can the GP see me?
 
I phoned the surgery this morning and can't see anybody but someone is going to ring me this morning. I am quite nervous about eating anything so had to force my tablets and breakfast!
My blood glucose went up to 15 before I went to bed but is back to 8 this morning so all good there.
The nurse taking a blood sample told me I was not drinking enough as she couldn't get any out...I had drunk 2 litres in the previous 2 hours! From a measured bottle so I know how much I had had. Not sure how it would be possible to be any more hydrated!!!! My finger has a huge bruise on on it from the lancet the ambulance crew used....if this happens again I will insist I do it myself!!!!!
