Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi all !!
I'm Daisy and back in March 10 days before my 19th birthday I was diagnosed as a type 1 diabetic. With no family history it came as a fair shock and I'm struggling at the moment with alot if I'm honest, I'm very anxious at the moment and exhausted too, and I feel abit lonely with this all.
I'm hoping this will help and it'll be nice to see how others cope and how they do <3

Welcome to the forum @daisymae19

I was diagnosed age 21 (so not long after you) and no family history for me too - so I can well remember the feelings of shock and being overwhelmed that you describe.

We had a thread a year or two back where people shared the top tips that they have picked up over the years that they would want to tell themselves at the beginning.

There may be some things in it you’ll find interesting?

Welcome @daisymae19 🙂 It’s really hard to get your head round a Type1 diagnosis at first. It’s very normal to feel sad, anxious, angry and any other mix of emotions. It does gradually get easier though.

If it helps you, 9 out of 10 people diagnosed with Type 1 have no close relative with it. It’s not your fault - just bad luck.
