Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hello all.recently diagnosed with t2.im adjusting and learning new things every day.foods etc that agree with me.started on metformin.had a strange reaction to that.now on other tablets at 80mg once a day averaging 8 in the morning b4 food.then hitting 11.very up and down.originally discovered by eurine test at doctors and showed up high ketones level.was hitting 17 then.i was shocked when they rang me to deliver the news as no symptoms etc.its certainly a wake up call I didn't expect!I'm nearly 50 and thought I was a highlander!!no such luck.

Hi and welcome.

It is unusual for Type 2s to have ketones. Can I ask if you have lost any weight rather too easily or unexpectedly lately?
Is the new tablet Gliclazide? Looks like you are doing quite well to get your levels down so significantly although eventually slightly lower numbers would be ideal. What have you changed diet wise? Just wondering if it is your diet which is more likely to have reduced your levels or the medication?

Was there a reason why the doc requested a urine sample (if you don't mind me asking), if you hadn't had symptoms of diabetes? Most people who are not symptomatic get picked up on a routine blood test. Just wondering if you are mistaken about not having symptoms or perhaps they had slowly developed over a period of time and you didn't realize that's what they were or thought they were part of getting older.... ie needing the loo through the night and dropping off to sleep after a meal etc.

Anyway, I am very pleased that you have found your way to the forum and I hope it is as helpful to you as it was to me when I was diagnosed nearly 3 years ago. Make yourself at home, read lots of other people's posts as that can be really enlightening and please feel free to ask any questions you need to. We all know how overwhelming the diagnosis is at first and it takes time to figure out all the pieces of information and how they apply to you and your body and your diabetes.... and it can be quite individual in that respect.

Hope to hear more from you as you get into the swing of it.
