I don't drink because I don't want to risk my health. I understand that people like to drink but I really don't see the point in going out with the aim of getting stupidly drunk. It's so bad for you it's really not worth it.

I'm probably a bit too fond of the vino ( red that is- white is what you drink if there is no red LOL) and also real ale. Gone off lager and cider and shorts
Have to discipline myself to keep intake down to respectable levels . Two glasses with dinner can easily become 4 etc. And more than 2 definately makes me likely to hypo after breakfast the next morning. On odd ocasions I use it as an excuse to have carb fest. Managed to get really ill about 2 years ago. Had been out walking miles or so with cousing and went to friends for dinner. Started on the bubbly early and then the red and was dehydrated from the walk. So had to take myself off to bathroom and delicious food cooked by cousins friend was "wasted". Felt too unwell to check bsls and next morning I was ok but hypo- 2.2. don;t ever want to get like this again. Any lower and there'd be no room for further episode with repsect to driving license

I fail to see what pleasure there is in deliberately trying to get drunk, I've heard people say, "I had a good night last night, got drunk and cant remember a thing" How do they know it was a good night if they can't remember, it just becomes a burden on others.

John.

I can't understand it either - I've been sick through drink once, and that was more than enough!

Only thing I can add is to those who do drink a lot & too excess.

Please think about family/children/partners. With 2 alcoholic parents sitting on the sidelines & picking up the pieces isn't nice. And my memories of such times go back a long way!

Sarah 🙂

It is a personal choice ! I never have a wine with meal etc (makes mess of carb counting). I always have something to eat before going out for a good chin wag with mates. Being T1 since age of 3 i feel I have had my share of hassle. Having 2/3 pints twice a week & putting world to rights relaxes me !

I can't say I have noticed a difference pre or post diagnosis with regard to getting drunk & hangovers. I've always faired well with regard hangovers, as in never feel as bad as I should! As I am getting (slightly) older I find that my tolerance ain't as it was, but if you drink more often (not recommending this by the way) I find my tolerance goes back up, it's quite good at the minute!!
When I was diagnosed I was asked by a locum doc if I was suffering from vomitting as if I had been drunk a lot? Luckily I hadn't!

I too know of alcoholics in the family, and probably drink too much myself...

I rarely drink but that's because I'm on painkillers for my back. But when I do go out with my friends I try my best to get drunk (mainly to mask the pain and so I can keep up with my friends when they want to dance etc) but I really struggle.

Usually I can only get slightly tipsy, which still takes a lot of alcohol!
If I want to get drunk, the only thing that will do it is high percent absinthe, I usually take a hip flask of 75% volume mango absinthe (I've tried higher % but it burns my throat too much) out with me!
