On a global level, according to data from the 10th edition of the Diabetes Atlas, prevalence estimates of diabetes among people aged 20–39 years increased from 2·9% (63 million people) in 2013 to 3·8% (260 million) in 2021. It is indisputable that type 2 diabetes, typically a condition predominantly affecting middle-aged and older adults, has become increasingly prevalent in young populations.
