My son is not well at the moment ( type 1 ) is vomiting and headaches. What can he take to keep down. As don't really want him having hypos.
Many thanks

Has he tested his blood sugar and ketones if he’s unwell and vomiting? If bg is okay I’d sip liquids, but if bg high with ketones then would seek medical help.

Even if he doesn’t have ketones now, keep testing for them while he’s ill and test his blood sugar frequently. I find regular (sugar) Coke good to sip when vomiting. Tiny, tiny sips is the way.

How old is your son?

Hello Inka
He is an adult, but not able to come on forum. So I have for him
Thank you

Sorry to hear that your son isn’t well @Helen12

Hope he is feeling better today.

Does he have a copy of ‘sick day rules’ from his clinic?

If not, this PDF might help:

Sorry to hear how unwell your son is @Helen12

Being ill when you have T1 is always really difficult.
The sick day rules that @everydayupsanddowns has referred to are very useful.
It can be good to just have some rules to follow without thinking too much about it.

I use tonic water if I am vomiting. My levels are usually so high I am well clear of hypos so more keen to be carb free. If your son is in Multiple Daily Injections (MDI) or a pump and not eating he won’t need any Bolus (quick acting) insulin, but will need to keep a watch on the amount of background insulin he needs.

I hope that he starts to feel better soon
