Advise on bg meter's please...

Afternoon everyone, just after some advise on bg meter's, I have a nexus gluco r/x that I was given one year ago from my db nurse, the problem is taking blood really flippin hurts!!
I no it sounds daft a 6ft bloke who shakes his leg before each jab because I no it's going to inflict pain just makes me not want to take a reading, I no I have to, but is there a better lance you can use or a better pen for stabbing yourself with? the thing is if you have to prick yourself everyday I would rather it be less painful if possible 🙂

Thankyou alan....when I see db nurse will see if I can get any of the above you mention to test and try....like I said if your going to prick yourself on a daily basis better it be less painful as possible. 🙂

Having persuaded my GP to give me a free meter, I got what I was given: a Microdot. It's OK, but then again I have nothing to compare it with. The strips will cost me ?18 from Boots (probably less online) if I ever have to buy my own.

I use the Bayer next usb meter (great meter and free software) which I was sent it free by them 🙂 🙂

I use the mylife pura lancing device with the BD micro fine 0.2 mm lancets the thinnest you can get, though the micro fine also comes in a 0.3 mm lancet, you would need to get the right one.

If you ring Accu Chek up they will more than likely send you the mobile meter which comes with the fast clix lancing device. I just explained when out and about on the bike looking for the all in one unit. I found the Accu Check mobile great for when out and about as its all in one unit (the fast clix lancer does detach from the meter, bonus is mine came with a 50 strip cassette. The only thing is you loose a test if its not filled enough to test and its a one person use meter (no testing friends with it).

The fast clix lancets are good as well with plenty of depth penetration levels.

The only problem now is to persuade the docs to put both systems on the repeat prescription, otherwise will have to make my mind up which system to use.

I don't mind the needles, just that my skin is pretty thin due the it constantly flaking off and can be pretty tender at times (docs say there nothing wrong with my skin ).

It's not daft at all. One of the hardest things for people who are new to testing is getting used to this as it can be painful. Eventually you start ending up developing tiny callouses but you'll definitely want something with an adjustable lancet depth.

I'd second the point about the AccChek testers - they also tend to be better made than the others which gives you confidence. I would also look to changing the lancet every time - the sharper the lancet, the less depth you need and the less pain you'll have. I'd also second the points Pav made about the AccuChek Mobile - I love the fact it's all in one so there's no mess but it does seem to be less tolerant of smaller blood samples than other meters, it doesn't have a light to show you where to put the blood in the dark and it's also a bit noisy too, which is not ideal if you have a bed buddy and want to test at 2am!

I presume you have adjusted the length of the needle ? it shouldn't hurt terribly on 1 or 2 should it ? perhaps you need to stab somewhere else, i find the finger is the best but for the first time I see it suggests the forearm ? I don't like the sound of that but it may hurt less !!
My BG Star has 8 lengths of stab ..... yikes !! I am using 2 . good luck !!
