Hi,

Can any one help with some advice, apologies I have not been o the site for a while. Last night I got home not feeling very well reall tired and no energy and later I felt cold and could not stop shaking and later was sick.

I don't know if it was a bug a could it be symptoms of Hypoglycemia ?

I am seeing my doctor friday so will discuss it with him also.🙂

Hi Royston, how do you feel now? If you are only taking metformin for your diabetes, it is unlikely that you were suffering from hypoglycaemia (but not impossible). It sounds more like a bug to me, I presume you don't have a blood testing kit so you can see what your levels are like? If you are still poorly it might be worth trying for an earlier appointment or calling NHS Direct. Are you still managing to eat OK? Someone said on here recently that if you are not able to eat you should not take your metformin, you might want to confirm this with your doctor or pharmacist.

Hope you feel much better very soon 🙂

confirm with doc or pharamcist about metformin. If you take it without eating you will spend time in the loo.

The symptoms you describe sound like the ones we have had over the last few weeks in our house. We have all had colds from no where I can describe. Take advice on how best to deal with it, if you can't get a quicker appointment with your doctor give NHS a ring or go into a drop in medical centre if you have one near you.

I hope you feel better soon, and if you have to go out wrap up warm.

Hi Northerner,

Thanks for this , to be honest I do not feel very well still and I do know that there are a lot of nasty bugs going about. If it continues I will get early appointment with GP.

One more question I am on metformin and d not have a testing kit but I always feel tired and lethargic is this just a diabetic thing ?

If you don't know what your blood sugar levels are like then it's possible they are still quite high - this will make you feel as described. It may be that the metformin alone is not able to keep your levels under control. I would try asking the doctor for some strips and a testing kit so that you can monitor your levels, if only for a few weeks, so that you can get a better picture of how your levels relate to how you feel and what you are eating/drinking. If the doctor is intransigent then it might be worthwhile investing in a kit yourself - the cheapest I am aware of is the SD Codefree Meter which has test strips that are only ?6.99 for 50 (others may be up to ?25 for 50). Read Test,Review, Adjust by Alan S for a guide to how testing can help you understand your diabetes 🙂

The doc is the best person, but I once had a bout of cellulitis which gave me the same symptoms (bacterial skin infection).

This was prior to diagnosis mind and I eventually found the cause ... I'd impaled my big toe on a nail when decorating (and hadn't noticed!!).

I had cellulitis a couple of times, last time was right after the Bells Palsy atthe begining of the year, it's always worth getting it checked as it needs treating, usually with antibiotics an din my case cream too.

Sounds like what I had recently, suddenly feeling very unwell, cold uncontrollable shaking then fever, vomiting and then the 'brown laser'. Following three days feeling weak as a kitten and lost a full stone in weight.

I put it down to the norovirus, according to the NHS direct website you don't need to see a doctor so I didn't bother and a week later I feel better than I did before the illness because I'm a bit lighter!
