hi all.am currently on novamix 30 twice a day but due to my sugar levels rising im being switched to basal bolus regime which im assured will suit my life style better as i work shifts..would love some advice and tips.🙂

Try to go on a DAFNE course. I have not been on one myself, but a lot of people find it very helpful.

A Basal Bolus regime will allow much more flexibility over your control. You will be able to control your diet, rather than your diet controlling you. I felt so much better when I first went onto it.

ty alan.im due to see my diabetic nurse specialist next week who will start me on the new regime.feel a bit low at the mo as since being diagnosed ive always managed to have total control of it and as u said i controlled it not it controlling me.am hoping this new regime will do for me exactly wat its doing for u and that i will again take control.ty again🙂

I was kept on novomix for about two years after being diagnosed and then switched on to novorapid and lantus and have found it so much easier to control, it's a bit of a cliche bit I control my diabetes now whereas before it controlled me, I have a lot more freedom in what I choose to do and when I choose to do it. I also did a DAFNE course which I'd highly recommend if you can get on it.

As for advice, you may need to test more regularly at first to get an idea of what works for you. I found the trick was getting the basel dose right, once that's sorted it's fairly easy to see what you need to be doing with your bolus doses.

hi Bluebird - all I can say is go for it - you'll end up doing 2-3 more injections a day but it will give you so much more freedom and will improve your long term outlook too with better control. And, yes if you can get on a DAFNE course go for that too - it was the best week of my life (better than a holiday) - taught me so much, met so many others like myself and had such a laugh I would go home in the evening with my sides aching. I don't agree with some of the DAFNE principles but it has kept me on the straight and narrow (ish) which I've only managed before when I was pregnant
