Hi,
I am sitting here freezing with the heat on full and I've come to the conclusion that I am not getting enough calories to replace the carbs i am no longer eating and that do do this I need to increase the amount of fat I am eating. The problem is that I am vegetarian and veggies are not known for their fat content. Does anyone have any ideas or tips for me?

Do you like avocados? You could add butter, olive oil, avocado oil to your cooking. Eggs. Cheese. Flax and chia seeds. Nuts and nut butters. Full fat Greek yogurt. Mackerel, salmon, sardines, pilchards......

@Oblivious said they are vegetarian so don't usally eat fish.

For me: soy milk, nuts, seeds, avocado.

I find this a useful free tool: www.cronometer.com for tracking things.

  1. Hi @Oblivious - I was just reading this today when i then saw your post. this website : https://www.thediabetescouncil.com/side-effects-of-cutting-out-carbohydrates/

about half way down it talks about shivering and feeling cold.. Apparently its to do with the thyroid production, as glucose is the building blocks of the stimulating hormone (TSH)... and when there is insufficient glucose in the body there is a lack of TSH and as a consequence we feel cold, sluggish and tired. It recommends for us to 'gradually' lower carbs (let the body adjust slowly). Have a read for further info, its quite interesting.

Thanks @Tee G,i'll have a read but you also reminded me that i got blood taken to check for thyroid and parathyroid problems but with the whole corona virus thing i've not had the results yet. might need to chase my GP

Edit - had a read and some seems quite interesting but i was a bit confused to see the article describe apples and oranges as 'low starch vegetables'

Well they might be low starch, but they are not low carb as they have a fair bit of sugar.

they have no starch but it was more the fact that they aren't vegetables

hahaha @Oblivious - I didnt notice about that..maybe the writer was hungry and brain stopped working 😉

They have fruit sugars and do have carbs. They both appear, under fruit in th carbs and Cals app!

@Tee G, the brain does use a lot of energy, maybe too few carbs?
