Hi good afternoon
I m a new type 2 diabetic patient. Can i take a cup of warm water added with a tea spoon of honey n cinamon every morning?
 
The only way to know if it's ok would be to test your blood sugars before and then again 2 hours after, ideally you'd be looking at no more than a 2-3mmol rise at the 2 hour mark, some might get off with it, others wouldn't, we're all different and the only way to know if something is suitable to you as an individual is to test xx

Er - you do know that honey is sugar and that as a diabetic that is the problem?
If you want to have cinnamon, you can add it to a cup of creamy coffee in the mornings - I do the same, and in the hot weather I add a small pinch of salt, as do not use it in cooking or on my food.
 
Yes, it may be worth trying testing a couple of times, just so you know how it effects you, but as Drummer says, honey is basically sugar, so it's very likely to send your blood sugar rocketing, and it's not going to be doing you any good diabetes-wise - if I were advising a new diabetic it's one of the first foods I'd advise them to cut out of their diet altogether. Also, because it's so very sugary you might want to see what it does to you 1 hour after eating rather than just 2 hours after - you could easily spike immediately after having it and be coming down again by 2 hours after. Even with the benefit of insulin I hardly ever have honey - I'd only have it (with extra insulin) if I had a cold, and I wouldn't recommend it to any diabetic not on insulin.
 
while yes the above is right it is far lower GI than sugar with floral honeys having lower GI and I know of Type 2's who can handle a 5g teaspoon of honey
 
GI is just an illusion where my gut is concerned - it makes absolutely no difference.
 
Give it a go and test to see if your happy with the results. Everyone is different and everyone has different results they are happy with. I made honey and mustard chicken in the week and was sure it was going to shoot my numbers up but after 2 hours I was 5.8 it really surprised me and I’ll certainly have it again.

I had some honey in tea yesterday to soothe a sore throat and the highest numbers I saw was 7.0 up from 6.0. It’s all trial and error until you find what your happy with

yes but that's YOU as an individual, many have had success using GI and GL, just because you haven't doesn't mean others wont, they have to see what THEY can manage themselves

Oh I am quite sure that there are type twos who can cope with a teaspooon full of sugar, I probably could do so myself - but I am under no illusion as to what I would be swallowing even if it was honey. I'd chose not to swallow honey or any other sugar, it is hardly beneficial, and after three years of avoiding sweet things I'd probably throw it back up again pretty quickly.
