Hi - looking for some advice x son (10) diagnosed March this year x
He’s been 20/22bg for the last two days never really coming down to single figure.. no ketones sometimes maybe 0.1.
Seems fine in himself

What should I do ? Any advice greatly appreciated

Sounds to me like his insulin dose(s) need increasing. When was the last time they were increased? But, has he been eating extra carbs over Xmas and is he still finishing them off? ..... possibly without mentioning it to mum?

Get a fresh cartridge of insulin just in case anything has gone wrong with that one. Keep a very close eye on what he's eating - nobody would blame you for allowing him to over indulge a bit at this time of year, but you do find with large amounts of carbs that your ratios don’t work any more and you need a lot more insulin than you think you do to deal with them effectively. Then after all that if he still won’t come down you need to do some dose adjustments. Get in touch with your medical team if you don’t know how to do that yourself. If he’s growing or coming down with an illness or something that can seriously mess up his numbers, but it could be just one of those things, your doses do need tweaking from time to time and for no obvious reason sometimes.
Am i right in assuming he’s on injections and not a pump? If he’s got a pump I’d be changing cannula and tubing as well as insulin and see if that helps!

Sorry to hear about your son’s raised BG.

keep his fluid intake up too, as over 10 for any length of time and the kidneys will try to flush out the extra glucose by weeing more.

hope the fresh cartridge does the trick. Do try to contact your clinic about dose adjustments too. Could be puberty and hormones throwing a spanner in the works.

Thank you for ur reply x
Iv spoke to his diabetes nurse and they have tweeked his meter hopefully that does the trick x
He’s autistic so he’s very fussy with food and eats the same things everyday so I know it’s nothing to do with Christmas indulgence / sneaking food x
They suggested he may be brewing a infection so il keep a eye out and hopefully the tweeks do the trick x
Happy new year

Could just be growth hormones or puberty hormones at his age - his brain may well not work the same as other 10yo lads - but his body still does!
