hi new to to the site and new to diabetes.just like to know if any beer is better than others, use to know a diabetic who use to drink holsten pills? any advice please thanks joeefc.

Michelob Ultra has very low carbs, as I recall Coors Light isn't particularly low in carbs but is a bit gassy. I'm a cider drinker myself - probably too much sugar, but there you go. To be frank, I experimented and worked out for myself what & how much I could drink, and when. If I'm drinking, I do it during the day, with food if possible. There is no way I'm going to miss my night time injection - and I'm not going to try doing it when pi$$ed. Happy hunting.

Haven't really thought about which beers are better for me. All I know is that alcohol will make my blood sugar go down. I only drink beer in the evening sometime after my dinner and before my 11pm Levemir shot. Depending on what I'm eating I'll drop the Novorapid dose a unit or two to account for my beer so that I have a decent blood sugar by 11pm. 🙂

thaks marclister and alan 221, thanks for your post will look at them

I prefer sweet white wine myself, but it is a case of suck it and see. We are all indviduals so waht affects one will not affect another. I have always had a low tolerance to alcohol, so it is rare for me to have more than one glass of anything.

The odd drink does not hurt, and I was told by my GP 2 or 3 units over the week could be beneficial if taken with meals.

Hi

I love beer (wine, gin whisky......anything at all really although I draw the line at drinking brasso!) and have experimented with losts of different kinds, in a scientific was you understand. Ive come to the conclusion that it doesnt really matter what beer you drink although the stronger the beer the less the carbs. The difference between low carb beer and normal beer was pretty insignificant to me. I was lucky enough that I didnt have to inject any novorapid with the beer when the sugar increased as I found it quickly came down again. Have fun experimenting as everyone will be different

I never take account of the carbs in beer, reduce my insulin when drinking, and try to make sure I eat something with it and before bed. I generally drink Stella, which does have the drawback of being virtually my daily unit allowance in one pint glass!

i find that guiness is he best drink for me (but thats due to having problems with the kidneys) i think every1 on here has told you the best advice to be told. i was told by a doc to have a moderate amount of alcohol and not to try and store units to get p**sed on the weekends. yeah i knew this and he thought he was quite clever for telling me this. the medical profesionals can only tell you so much mate alcohol intake is something that you need to test out for yourself. so on that note happy hunting 🙂
