Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Spotted this obituary of an amazing person, journalist, broadcaster, tribal chief etc, who had diabetes and lived in Tanzania. As the write wisely noted "His death is a reminder of what a devastating disease diabetes can be when medical treatment is poor, unavailable or unaffordable." Although hit type of diabetes and treatment isn't noted, I feel this is justified in the context of the obituary. The other side of the statement is the implication that diabetes isn't necessarily devastating where treatment is good, available and affordable.

Earlier, she says "Life was never dull when he was around. He could at times be unreliable, self-destructive and infuriating, but his wicked sense of humour, intelligence and charm was infectious. There was a serious and reflective side to him, too: he loved music and literature, and climbed Kilimanjaro not once, but five times." So, perhaps he had not complied with treatment? Respect to anyone who has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro once, let alon five times.
