For people with diabetes, the eligibility to receive a driver's license should be an individual decision, based on clinical evidence and appropriate consideration of potential safety risks, according to a position statement from the American Diabetes Association published in a supplement to the January issue of Diabetes Care.

The American Diabetes Association reviewed the scientific and medical evidence to determine whether, and the extent to which, diabetes is a relevant factor in determining driver ability and eligibility for a driver's license.
