OLEAN, N.Y. (WIVB) - A new advertisement that plays off the fears of patients from Olean General Hospital has sparked outrage. The ad claims a former hospital patient died after being injected with a re-used insulin pen.
Last month the hospital alerted current and former patients to be tested after learning nurses had been re-using insulin pens, going against federal guidelines. Over 600 people have now been tested for Hepatitis B, C, and HIV, but that marks only around one-third of the patients who need to be checked out.
The ad is from a law firm in New York City, and it has the hospital wondering if the firm is trying to cash in on the fears of those who might be affected.
