Good evening, I am curious if anyone else has had a message from their GP Surgery regarding Accu-Chek Instant test strips? I had a message from my Surgery saying that they had changed my prescription from Accu-Chek Instant strips to GlucoFix Tech Glucose testing strips. When I spoke with the surgery, they said that these had changed due to supply issues with Accu-Chek Instant test strips.
I did ask if the new strips were compatible with my Accu-Chek Instant and was told "they should be, erm, no, there is a new Blood Glucose Meter for you here at the surgery!"
Never had an issue with my Accu-Chek Instant (I have two) but have now been given the GlucoFix Tech GK Meter.
Has anyone had any experience with these?
Thanks in advanced!

I strongly suspect it to be a price issue.

They seem to be available on line for those who have to self fund, the price seems similar for both types of strips. It seems odd they have changed your prescription.

My surgery regularly changes their preferred glucose meters - previously had Contour now Accucheck. Picked up 2 boxes of strips today.

It's interesting as in 22 years, I have never had the surgery change my glucose meter nor test strips on my prescription - i have had 3 meters over those years, all Accu-Chek and never been an issue.

I think some of the Accu Check meters are no longer available in Uk, although the test strips are still available. There are a variety of reasons why a Practice might suggest/impose a change.

Agreed, last review the DN warned me that if my meter broke then it would be replaced by something else but until then, I would continue to get my Aaccu Check strips on prescription.

How odd @BigRob

The Instant doesn’t seem to be listed as discontinued in the UK. And I can’t immediately find anything about shortages either.

If the costs are roughly equal, and you’d prefer to stick to what you are used to (eg because it has functionality you find particularly helpful like an app or similar), you could ask your surgery if you could stay with the Accu-Chek for the time being?
