Hi there . I am a newbie to the Forum, but a long term Type 2 Diabetic, controlled by Diet and medication.
I record my blood sugar readings by using an Accu-Che fastclix testing meter.
I have noticed on a number of occasions that even though the expiry date on the box containing a new cartridge for the testing meter is usually a good year away, when you load it into the meter it states the expiry date as a lot sooner. For example I loaded one this morning where the box stated expiry as 01/2022, but the meter stated it as 22/04/21. I have occasionally had a cartridge which stopped working before its 50 tests, but this is rare. As I now test three times daily this should obviate any risk of this occurring again.
I usually buy my cartridges from Boots, and get one free one every 2 months from NHS prescription, so they should be well in date and reliable.
Has anyone else noticed this discrepancy, or had problems with it, or indeed know why it is so.
Thanks

Are you talking about an Accu-Chek mobile?

I believe the box carries a use by date, but the meter will only permit something like 45 days from install.

Might be totally wrong though.

Thanks Barry. That is useful and seems logical. I will look up the technical data on the meter to check it. Geoff

I'd have thought that as soon as you open the box containing the cartridge, which will have been packed in a sterile atmosphere, and expose it to the world, it has a count down time before it’s deemed to have got too conataminated, or damp, or whatever. Just like test strips, once you’ve opened the pot you’re supposed to use them up within a month or so.

Hi All,
I found a comment on another Forum, which stated that the cassettes run out 90 days after being installed, They have a chip in apparently. This fits in exactly with the expiry date i gave above, 22nd April 2021, which is exactly 90 days from today. Thanks for your responses. Geoff

I also used to be called pedantic when I was younger. However, this shouldn't have been too difficult to make sense of, as the "finger bodger" comes already attached to the actual meter, and my original query was about the Cartridge.

Actually the meter us called the Accu-Chek Mobile, and the lancing device is called Acu-Chek Fast Clix. Many of use the Fast Clix as an independent lancing device , so it is easy to see the confusion.

Rather rude, not every diabetic knows about every meter so how are some supposed to know the lancing device is attached to the meter? I was expecting a question about a lancing device as well seen as that's what the title suggests

With respect, my original post was clearly headed Accu-Chek, and the body of the post clearly showed the enquiry was regarding cartridges for the testing meter. The first replies were on that subject. I appreciate that there are many different testing systems, having myself used others, but if respondents do not know anything about the Accu-Chek system , why do they comment? I came for help, not an argument, so can we just call it a day?

It is headed Accu-Chek FastClix Cartridge by which some could have thought you meant the drum for the lancing device, you stated FastClix, which a lot have experience with when you should have in fact entitled it with the correct information of Accu-Chek Mobile which is the meter, you are referring to TW's comment, it's not her fault you have in fact stated the wrong Accu-Chek system in your title, just clearing up why TW said what she did rather than you thinking "it shouldn't have been too difficult to make sense of"

Come on chaps and chapesses, behave yourselves, no need to create an argument over this.

If we made absolute clarity in titles and posts a prerequisite for posting, then we would end up having to moderate nearly every post made. The issue is resolved - thanks to @reprobate for flagging it - and all should be happy, so I have locked the thread to prevent further posting to it.
