I am hoping to get some cheaper Aviva test strips from e-bay etc, but the sample test strips I had with my meter, have a green square printed on them with, on the leaflet, a warning that these strips are clear of "Meltose Interference". unlike earlier strips.

None of the boxes I'm looking at on line appear to have the green square, but are all long dated.

Does anyone know if these are safe, and what its actually all about.

Hope that makes sense, my brain hurts😱

I have just started using these, I will have a look at the boxes now

Yeah, mine have the same green square but I don't really understand what they mean by maltose interference. It might be worth asking your pharmacist about it and see if they are aware of it

Hi Slipper, I've used both types and noticed no difference in the results I have been getting. I think it is that, in specialised circumstances maltose (a type of sugar) could produce an unreliable result. Those circumstances are when a patient is taking certain preparations containing maltose - it's explained rather technically here:

Basically, it might show a higher result which would be potentially dangerous if, for example, a person then gave themselves too much insulin.

If you are on other medications it might be worth having a word with your pharmacist to see if they contain maltose or galactose, but I doubt this will affect you. 🙂

Thanks guys, the ones on e-bay seem to have no square, but then they may be using library pictures. I will get some and test with one of my strips with the square and with one from e-bay to see if the readings are ok.

Good this forum isn't it, replies so fast, thanks.🙂
