Hello, I'm testing my favourite meals while I have the use of a Libre2 trial.
Today's meal have readings of 6.5 then 9.8 after 2 hours.
I have a feeling this isn't ideal and it was a test of a chicken wrap which would be a monthly meal when I eat out.
Any comments much appreciated. Thanks.

I can only answer how I’d personally view this.

I’d say it wasn’t awful, especially as a once a month thing. Can you plan 8n a walk afterwards to help maybe?

Ideally I prefer to keep the post meal under 8.5 where I can and rise by less than 2mmol at the 2hr mark. Less is even better. I don’t eat wraps or bread which helps a lot. Is there an option of the fillings in a bowl with a fork instead of the wrap?

Would it be possible for you to eat all of the filling but leave just part of the wrap if you don't want to discard it all?

Yes, good ideas there, thank you. It's interesting to hear other opinions and suggestions. I am just ploughing through the things I love to eat and should have a clear idea by the end of the trial. I suppose I can add this to the "very occasional" list. I was pleased to learn that All Bran was fine at breakfast - not that I often eat first thing - and my next test is a stir fry with steak this evening. I'm quite enjoying the experiment and it has made me more focused when it comes to mealtimes.

I would think eating a meal like this once a month wouldn't do you much harm. If you had it every day, that would be a different scenario.

I have a treat day every few weeks and have chunky cheese on white farmhouse bread and a bun or slice of cake in my favourite cafe. My normal BG level now is between 4-5. This meal can still send me back to nearly double figures!! It is however a very rare event so doesn't have any overall impact on my HbA1c.

Thank you. Yes, it's the one time I am able to go out, at the end of every month, and is something I would really look forward to. It sounds as though you've found a perfect balance 🙂

I often find that a wrap has a chunk at the end with not much filling in it and so just leave that bit.

@Starshine These days I can eat a higher carb meal once in a while with almost no effect - but I waited until my after eating numbers were normally under 7 to try that out.
I definitely saw my metabolism recovering once I was under 8mmol/l 2 hours after starting to eat. The same meals resulted in lower numbers week on week.
I still avoid high carb foods so as not to have spikes after meals for weeks on end, but half a dozen times a year I will eat an ordinary ice cream or a small piece of cake, or have several of the small apples from the trees in my garden over the time they are on the trees. I do reduce carbs in my meals around those times. I would not bother to eat a wrap though - it is not worth it to me. A fresh crispy lettuce leaf is my choice for wrapping things.

Sometimes I think it’s useful to consider the rise almost as much as the numbers themselves in the early days.

6.5 to 9.8 is a rise of 3.3 - which is just a smidge over the ‘2-3 rise’ that many T2s on the forum aim for. If it had been a rise from 5 to 8.3 you’d have possibly felt better about it?

So part of me thinks it was absolutely fine as an occasional meal-out, and actually not that far from being OK day to day :D

Especially if your plan involves losing weight, which could help improve insulin sensitivity, and may improve your 2hr readings after the same meals in the future?

Thank you all for the latest input. I have had a couple of days digesting all this information, reading up and making plans. I have enjoyed taking the time to do more meal and salad prep but had a very strange day yesterday - knew I had to test a meal that I need to give up on (my bi-weekly two slices of pizza). The decision was made once I saw what happened. Levels of 6.2 to 11.0 to 8.8 where it stayed all evening. Incidentally, my morning readings are still above 8. But that's what this trial is all about - finding the way forward - and I'm still feeling motivated to crack this! Thank you all, hope you're having a good weekend.
