Hi all been diabetic many years on insulin about 10 years been on a few on a few differant insulin at the mo I'm on abasaglar which makes me eat so much more than u did before I was a diabetic does anyone else have this problem with this insulin been waking up having hypos just at my wits end with it now diabetic team can't see a problem with it and don't have an appointment fir another 3 week...

Welcome @Sharon28 Does not sound good. I'm sorry to hear this. I would advise seeking some serious help from your diabetic team. 3 weeks doesn't seem a long time to wait in the big scheme of things but if you're not getting the level of health care that should be expected you may want to get in-touch sooner rather than later. You can get some quality advice on here though. Hope things start to swing the other way for you and your diabetes.

Hi thank you just going round in circles don't no what else to eat to keep them stable just eat then up it goes again I'm eating all good grains for breakfast 1 half hours later down it goes again Ive redused my insulin but still have the same problems I've already waited 3 weeks but still have till the 12 August before I can speek to some 1..

It can be a challenge to identify sometimes. If you post your typical diet details, blood glucose levels if you're monitoring them and your HbA1c results assuming you've got them to hand members on here will be able to help. I will help as much as I can.

Are you on mealtime insulin as well @Sharon28 ? If you’re having frequent hypos, basically you’re having too much insulin. Are the hypos always at a similar time of day?

I have my insulin 1 injection 1 time a day at 4 I have the hypos in the morning early or through the night woken up to 3.3 that's my lowest but I eat like I've not had nothing to eat for days . I was never like this in my other insulin.. they started me off on 16 units I'm now down to 10 units I've done this myself I'm a vet tiny lady I'm very sensitive to many things my hbc1 is 54..

If this insulin is not suiting you, can you ask for it to be changed.

I didn't know that I could ask for something else. I was just either going to stop it and eat no carbs and drink water ..

I’d ask to swap to a different basal insulin @Sharon28 Levemir might suit you better as you’ll be able to adjust your daytime dose and nighttime dose separately and so reduce nocturnal hypos. Two injections a day would be worth it. Also, Levemir might help reduce your feelings of hunger. It’s definitely worth a try.

I entirely agree that its clearly too high a dose of insulin, none of us should EVER need to 'eat to match the insulin'. Why on earth did 'they' change whatever you were using before?

Hi thank you I was on humalin which was great but didn't work properly just wasn't getting them down but had no side effects . With thus 1 I'm having the insulin but trying to keep up with it by eating ive never had this problem before Evan before I started on insulin I didn't eat very much I'm a tiny person with a very small appetite now I'm eating twice as much that can't be right somethings don't add up..

The Humulin probably didn’t work because you took it once a day instead of twice @Sharon28 If the Lantus isn’t suiting you, ask to go back to Humulin or try Levemir (both twice a day insulins). Different insulins suit different people.
