So got an email back from the DSN saying ideally I should be getting enough test strips to last 2 months which would mean I should be getting 200 per prescription, she added at the end however if you are testing more you may need to speak to your GP ( no am I not testing more I only get 100 per prescription) anyway I put in an order last Thursday so should have been ready yesterday - nope - today - nope, phoned the GP surgery who said it had been put down on Friday so should definitely be there, phoned the chemist as I didn't have time to go back up as had an appointment in town and told them what I'd been told, they said definitely nothing phone the doctor again so the receptionist said she'd send it down again - well guess what that one was ready by this afternoon, so why couldn't they have done it properly in the first place last week, now to phone the surgery in the morning again and ask about changing the amount of strips I get, it's never ending trouble with that surgery and chemist I tell ya 😡 x

sounds all too familiar!

It's so frustrating isn't it, when I was newly diagnosed it was worse I was only getting 50 strips, called the surgery about it got told oh it's ok it's been changed you'll get 200 each time now, well I did the first I reordered and then went down to 100, I put in for new strips when I start the last pot for safety sake, well it's a good job if they are going to take this long to deal with it 😡 x

I have lots of stupid problems with my prescriptions too, last time OH went to get it and they forgot to dispense my insulin 😡

hehe yeah, they did the fifty strip thing here too

It's ridiculous when I got out the hospital I ran out of ketone testing strips, the chemist didn't have them in stock so I had to wait a week 😱, I would change chemists but I've heard the Boots here is just as bad, I can't change surgeries as the next nearest one is a 10 mile bus journey away and I go to the nurse every 3 months for my contraceptive injection, I don't want to be paying a fiver in bus fares all the time haha, can't afford to x

I vaguely remember wobbling aimlessly about trying to get needles and strips the day after getting out of hospital, could hardly walk, let alone converse with medical types who didn't have the paperwork etc

saying that, my chemists have always helped, most probs seem to come from the receptionists at the surgery

I only had 5 strips when I left hospital, doesn't touch the sides really

I had exactly the same issue just out of hospital, I didn't have a clue what was going on and no one had explained the exemption certificate so I was paying for them.

I got lucky with paying for prescriptions, cos they're free anyway in wales. wouldn't have known otherwise

I'm the same free up in Scotland too so I didn't run into that problem x

Well phoned the surgery today and the lovely receptionist has changed my prescription so I will be getting 200 from now on, woohoo less trips to the chemist haha x

Fabulous news

How many times a day do you test? Are they only giving you 100 per month? I go through about 75-100 a fortnight so they just give me 100 a fortnight (I have to pick all my meds up fortnightly for other reasons non D related)

The least amount is 5 times a day, although if my levels are lower like today I was 5.4 before breakfast and I can go up or down I thought it best to do a 2 hour test, same with lunch, if I'm up during the night I might do a test too then there's the factor have I had hypos etc and used more, so I was ordering every 2 weeks as I order when I open the last pot to be on the safe side x
