I just realised it is been a year today Carly was dx, all I can say we have got into a routine and despite some ups and downs things are good and we are controlling her diabete 🙂
The next big step is in September when Carly starts in Nursery, Im dreading it but we will go with flow and see how its go... I will make sure we will have a care plan argeed and DSN trained the staffs before she starts!

Happy? diaversary to little Carly, I cant imagine how it changed all your lives but you have adapted brillaintly all you parents of D are wonderful xxx

P.s I hope it all goes as smoothly as possible for her transition into nursery x

It was my diaversary yesterday Ruth. You and Carly will have learned so much and will continue to, but you have made such a good start in looking after her and making sure she grows up happy and healthy 🙂

Hi,
We are about a month behind you with 1st anniversary and beginning nursery, my daughter starts in October. Will be interested to know how your little one gets on and if you have any advice, a bit apprehensive about how the teachers will manage her pump etc (childminding didn't go too well unfortunately!)

Thanks Steff and Northener, how long is it been for you, Northener?

Hanmillmum - thank you for your reply, it is nice to know there is someone out there similar to Carly 🙂

I have never used a childminder, I gave up my jobs to became Carly's full time carer (I had no choice as I'm a single mum) so Im sorry to know its didn't work out for you.

I emailed three nurseries near us and guess what!!! only one replied and other two made excuses when we called them!! so we went to the one that replied and they are happy to be trained by DSN to test Carly and give her injections (she is on MDI) but I will be looking at one or two more Nurseries.

It will be the first time I will be apart from Carly!! Yes Im dreading it but we will see how its go and Im not too sure about strangers giving her injections and test her, since I have only let myself and my three older sons to do them :-S

Good luck withthe nursery for Carly, and happy diabetes anniversary too.

I think finding out your child has any kind of special need is the begining of an education for all concerend. I think parents of children with any kind of needs are very special.

Hi Ruth,

I am actually still managing to work part time despite childminder probs as my mum has really stepped up to help us out. She is managing to use the pump and test her BGs etc. I make up a packed lunch and record the carbs for mum to put in, and get home in time for the girls tea. Doesn't always run smoothly though!

The nursery my daughter will be attending is attached to the primary school my eldest goes to, we have not yet broached her diabetes with the nursery teachers, we have just filled in forms and been accepted. Her nurse will contact the school and provide some teaching sessions and care plans and I expect I will have to be present for first few sessions and "on call" for the rest. One of my concerns is the effect it will have on her blood sugars, she is very sensitive to any changes, and also the snacks they'll be providing. I know the school will have dealt with diabetic children before but the pump may be something they have not seen before.

I wish you the best of luck with the nursery, ( very disappointed to know you didn't hear back from a couple of them ! discrimination ? probably best they didn't reply to you if that is their attitude! ) keep us informed on how you are getting on and any tips! TC 🙂

Discrimination?? maybe?? but I told others if it is so then I don't want Carly in there with their negatives anyway, I have got another Nursery to look at this afternoon, another one that are positive and said Carly's diabetes isn't an issue 🙂
