Hi everyone, I’ve been lurking and scouring the forum for the last 10 weeks.
12 weeks ago had a shock diagnosis of Type 2 with an hba1c of 87.
I spent the first 2 weeks in the usual head spinning quandary, lots of help and confusing information then thankfully discovered this forum.
I immediately decided to go the low carb route.
Which in turn gave me respite from chronic leg pain and allowed me to take long dog walks again and the cardio exercise.
The reason I’ve joined today, is to say a massive Thankyou.
Reading other people’s stories/pitfalls has been inspiring.
Help on which foods, recipes I’ve worked my way through have all helped massively.
Had my 12 week bloods results today- have dropped from 87 to 38.
I am obviously over the moon and very grateful for all your help.

Well done!

That's an incredible drop and I'm glad that you found inspiration from what you discovered on here. I'm not sure I would have got where I am without the help and support of forum members.

Wow. Well done you

That’s brilliant! I had leg pains as well, but it all stopped as soon as went low carb.

It was the leg pain that prompted me to go and see a GP. Had no idea diabetes was the culprit.
Hadn’t slept properly because of it for months.

Many, many congratulations on an absolutely brilliant result! So good to also read that your leg pain has reduced and you are able to be more active again. I am sure your dogs appreciate that too! Your post here about your success will no doubt act as inspiration for others like you just starting their journey and give them hope and a way forward, so thanks for "delurking" and telling us about it.
Wishing you lots of success with continuing to maintain your great achievement.

What a lovely post @Kernow-Debra

So pleased you were able to find an approach that suited you so well, and have had such spectacular success!

Many congratulations, and lovely to hear about the improvements in leg pain and longer dog walks too.

Brilliant result - well done!! I've just had blood taken last week and am waiting for the result with baited breath. I'm also hoping to be in the 30's somewhere :D

I was getting terrible leg cramps every night, despite walking the dogs every day but had no idea (at the time) this was a side effect / complication of diabetes. There was a lot of other stuff I ignored too 🙄

Your post is an inspiration that it can be achieved with the right attitude and a bit of work. Stay motivated, although I'm sure (like me) you don't ever want those pains back again, they are horrid!

Same with me - I only got pains when I lay down, walking was fine. It was stopping me from sleeping. The GP told me it was 'wear and tear' and I wasn't diabetic as aching legs aren't a symptom (They can be). They wanted recent bloods, so I had a test... and guess what?

As soon as I cut the carbs it all went away. Literally within a week.

Great results!
