A rant about porridge

My GP clearly has a thing about porridge, none of the HCPs do. My blood glucose testing two hour later is regularly between 5 and 6 . I am quite happy with that. Saw my GP and again she advised me to ditch the porridge and make my own granola (she must be joking). I showed her a series of my BG testing after said devil's food This is where it gets odd, 'oh but if you remove porridge from your diet your numbers will be lower' I am ok with my numbers, she clearly isn't won't really say what the problem is. This is the same GP who told me not to test my BG and kept me on metformin x 4, check out all my Hba1c until the Practice Pharmacist had a bit of a melt down as why they had kept me on 4 with my low Hba1c!

I would have thought the GP had much more important things to be getting on with rather than the nitty gritty of your diet especially as what you are doing is giving you good numbers.
 
Whereas I've been told that if I can tolerate oats to eat them, as they're good for controlling cholesterol. I went back to them and found that they don't affect me any more than my usual 10g of carbs breakfast. (In fact, sometimes after having oats I'd see lower levels for the rest of the day.)

Sounds like your GP hasn't got a scooby about bg numbers if they 5 & 6 is bad after a bowl of porridge.

When my DN saw how my BG numbers had come down, six weeks after diagnosis, she said she didn't think I needed the Metformin and suggested I stopped taking it to see how I got on. At the time I was only on one a day with breakfast and it wasn't agreeing with me at all. Well, I got on just fine and no one has suggested I start taking it again, even though my HbA1c has been consistently in the range 38-41 ever since - which is actually not as good as yours.

What makes me laugh(or weep) is that this GP is the diabetic 'lead'

Ah, but you don't face the annual comment, when I ask about a reduction in Met to see what might happens, 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it'. It is almost a game I play to see when (not if) the phrase will appear in the 'chat'.
