Relationship to Diabetes

Hey everyone,

Just joined this today after reading a link when I was having a google scout about for info on the accu check aviva expert blood test meter, which I'm thinking of asking my diabetes clinic for - my boyfriend's got one and I'm quite jealous of it 😛 (yes, both of us are T1 diabetics 🙂 )

Im 20 and have been diabetic for 14 years. On 4 injections a day - 3x novorapid and 1x insulatard. Last hba1c was 10.6% which I was gutted about, but I'm working fairly hard on trying to get it down now. I carb count which I find fairly useful too.

Annoyingly since I went to university nearly 2 years ago I have not been seen by a diabetic consultant or a DSN. My doctors kept messing up my referral (the doctors blamed the hospital and vice versa). Finally got an appointment for this thursday, but had a call today to say it's been cancelled until the 8th of June!

I'm a member of the diabetes uk page on facebook, find it really useful being able to talk to people who are going through the same things as me. I look forward to meeting new people on here 🙂

Yeah, fantastic GP..🙄 think the worst thing is that I was with the GP the university recommends - the on campus gp! Luckily I've changed now and my GP is slightly better, emphasis on the slightly!

I'm sure he'll want to join to, will be showing him this when he gets home from work 🙂

Welcome to the forum. I'm another Expert user, and once you've got it set up (which does take a bit of effort) it can make a decent go of bolus suggestions quite a lot of the time.

Notice you are on NovoRapid and Insulatard, which is a slightly unusual combination (though if it works for you then great!). Have you tried any of the flatter profile analogue basals (Lantus/Levemir) and didn't get on with them?

Welcome! I hope you get your GP sorted out - stamp your feet until they listen.

I have an Expert although it's my back up meter. I was given it by my DSN, so when you get an appointment be sure to try and blag whatever free stuff you can out of your DSN 🙂
