Had a quick blood pressure check with my DSN yesterday and she said something that I thought was quite nice and a good overall positive message to share.
We were talking about blood control and the letter my specialist from the hospital had sent her and she said (paraphrasing), that she "liked being a diabetic nurse, because diabetes is one of the few conditions where patient efforts can have a significant impact on their wellbeing."
I thought that was a really positive way of seeing it. That we have a lot of agency and can impact our own health a lot more than is common with major conditions.
Having heard the stories and answers to questions on this forum, it definitely feels that way to me. Of course we all start off feeling down because we're diagnosed. But I certainly felt it more as a call to action, which is what I hear in a lot of you guys too.
So a visit to the GP had a bit of a happy feeling in the end.
