Type 2
Hi,

Been type 2 diabetic for around 5 years due to having had pancreatitis. Now struggling with getting my H6A1c down!!! (currently 72!). On Gliclazide and Canaliflozin.

Any ideas or help welcome

Thanks

Ian

Hi @Ian- and welcome - and just to say that if @Inka is right and your pancreas isn't working properly then your HbA1c is likely to go up until you are treated with insulin. It may be difficult to find a medical professional who knows anything about type 3c though, as it's rare, and people who have it are often mistakenly diagnosed and treated as type 2 initially.

We have a few type 3cs here, so just tagging a few for you as they may be able to advise - @Proud to be erratic @eggyg @soupdragon @martindt1606

There's also more info. about type 3c here - https://www.diabetes.org.uk/diabetes-the-basics/type-3c-diabetes

Welcome @Ian-
I'm diabetic following pancreatitis. Not much pancreas left in my case so definitely caused by the pancreatitis and so I'm classified as Type 3c (and treated in the same way as if Type 1).
Do you also have digestive issues and need to take Creon?

If you have a reasonable amount of pancreatic damage it's likely that the drugs are no longer effective and you might now need insulin.

Is your diabetes treatment organised by the GP.? Sounds like it might be time to clarify the amount of pancreatic damage you have and push for a referral to a hospital endocrinology team.
Do you still have contact with a hospital pancreatic (HPB) team? They might be able to give you some advice as well.
