When Elizabeth Reiners was first diagnosed with type-1 diabetes at just 14, her doctor said she had only 25 years to live.
But 62 years later, Reiners has proven that she could live well past what doctors first thought. Through a healthy diet, exercise and tight control of her treatment, the 75-year-old Meriden resident has managed with the disease.
Reiners was recently honored with a medal from the Joslin Diabetes Center at the Hospital of Central Connecticut for surviving more than 50 years with type 1 diabetes.
