When you look at my two-year-old daughter you can?t tell she suffers from an extremely rare condition known as hyperinsulinism (HI), which was diagnosed soon after her birth. People with hyperinsulinism produce extra insulin that causes blood sugar to drop quickly which can lead to seizures, brain damage and death. It?s essentially the opposite of a diabetic. My daughter?s body is still constantly battling an imbalance of insulin production and protein levels.

Thankfully I live close enough to Children?s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) which is one of only a few hospitals in the world that deals with HI. According to the doctors at CHOP my daughter is just 1 of the 400 treated for the rare disease in the past 20 years.
