OK, so tonight we have several friends coming round and are getting a Chinese takeaway. This will be the first time I have had a takeaway since being diagnosed as a T2 in August. I am thinking of Beef in Blackbean sauce. I will add cauliflower rice rather than any of the shops rices. Would this be OK. My last HbA1c test was 64 in early October which would include a period pre diagnosis. Generally I am currently testing around 6.5 to 7 pre evening meal and anything from 6.5 to 8 after But this Chinese worries me a bit . Also going to have my first alcoholic drink in months, gin and slimline tonic.

Any advice welcome if you can cast your mind back to your first takeaway after diagnosis. I would have preferred an Indian but one of the party can’t tolerate Indian food.

Hi Steve
Welcome to the group
No need to be nervous, if I get a Chinese, I usually go for Beef in black bean sauce too, very tasty and not too high in carbs.
Enjoy your meal

And gin and slimline tonic should be OK as well, just don't overdo it. If you test then you will feel more confident next time.
Do enjoy!!!!

The biggest potential problem with Chinese food is the rice and you have got that covered. May be a bit of carb in the sauce but I would not worry about it if it were me.

PS go easy if sharing anybody's sweet and sour pork if the pork has been fried in batter. Oh, and watch the prawn crackers.

Enjoy!

@Martin62 @Leadinglights @Docb Well that was a big success, 6.2 pre meal and 6.2 when testing 2 hours after. This morning the reading was 6.3 so am well happy. Stuck to just the blackbean sauce and a carb free rice plus a couple of G&Ts. Feels like a big step forward in that I can still enjoy a takeaway with friends.

Brilliant @SteveR.

What you have shown is that with a bit of forethought and a bit of discipline you can get into the lower carb way of eating without totally disrupting your life. A good pointer for many I reckon.

Fantastic result @SteveR

Good to know you can continue to enjoy and occasional takeout for celebrations and socialising and still keep your BGs happy.

Just have to remember what you did next time, and take the same careful approach 🙂
