Hello everyone.

I have just had my blood tests to confirm diabetes. Struggling to get my head around it as I suffer from Anxiety to make matters worse. I also have ulcerative colitis!

Any reassurance would be great.

If you are a lucky type two then you could lower your levels to normal by cutting out the carbs from your diet. I did and now am just about normal. I take no medication and feel fine.

I was given Metformin straight away, and it really made me feel ill - along with a statin I was a mess, so I'd advise trying to control by diet if you possibly can, the effect is the difference between night and day.

Interestingly over the past few days since finding out I have been eating really well cutting sugar obviously and carbs, fat and my symptoms are much improved. No dry mouth, urinating a lot less so I am hoping that what will be the case for me. Just still worried that my bloods will find something else also!

You are cutting down on fat?
As fat is not part of the glucose cycle, is invisible to the pancreas and doesn't require insulin for digestion it is an ideal fuel for diabetics.

I need to lose weight. I lost a lot a while back but I have some to lose. I am eating some fat, avocado etc.

I could never lose weight on low calorie low fat diets - on low carb with the natural fats which came with the foods I found my clothes were falling off - it isn't eating fats which makes you fat - it is the carbohydrates.
To fatten up animals they don't give them fat, they give them carbs, lots of them. We are supposed to be the exact opposite? Doesn't make sense to me.
