Hi there and thanks for the add. I'm currently a ? Type 2 or LADA just waiting on a chat with the consultant regarding results. A wee bit confused lol.
If you're only a "wee bit" confused you're doing better than 99.9% of people at diagnosis 🙂
Give yourself time to get your head around things and while waiting to speak to the consultant, read & ask questions here, and work out what questions you want to ask him/her.
Lol, I have read and read and read. Got some antibody results and that is what's left me confused. The consultant stated "ultimately time will tell" surely I'm 1 or the other. I'm at the nurse today for my 2nd hba1c so will see what she had to say about the letter.
Thank god I have a medical(ish) background and my dad is type 1 so have some knowledge otherwise I'd be very very confused
If your Dad is T1 I am amazed there is any doubt, even if your antibody test didn’t score a bazillion.
The initial treatment paths are quite different, so I would press to be treated as LADA and start on basal:bolus insulin as soon as possible, rather than starting on tablets.
My thinking would be that some of the tablets are designed to push the remaining beta cells in the pancreas harder, which if you are LADA will already be depleted, flagging and under attack - and ultimately the more of them you can keep in good shape the more ‘softening’ they will provide to your own insulin-dose guesswork.
Did they measure your cPeptide? That would show how much (or how little!) insulin you are producing, and whether you have high production / insulin resistance characteristic of T2.
Hope you get some clarity soon. An accurate classification is so important - and ultimately can assist or prevent access to various treatment options in the future.
