Research shows that specific gene variants are linked to insulin resistance in a population of Mexican Americans.
It?s already known that insulin resistance is a high risk factor for diabetes and heart disease. Previously, the gene for lipoprotein lipase (LPL) has been identified as a risk factor for high blood pressure, obesity and atherosclerosis, although studies have been only on small groups.
