I don't eat much fish, apart from plain poached white fish and the occasional tin of sardines in a salad, but I've decided to make an effort, so I've been watching a lot of videos on YouTube

One of them had a tip for a home made fish descaler

Get several crown corks, of the type used on bottled beer, and nail them to a piece of wood - Simple!

I haven't made one yet, but intend to do so asap
 
Or, you could ask your fishmonger to do it for nowt.
 
That's true, but I just fancy doing it all myself, even the messy bits
 
You really took me back. My son brought me a fish scaler when he came back from his first school trip abroad. :D I put it in the display cabinet.
 
.... I'm sure Pete's got a wire brush somewhere in the garage somewhere from getting the er oxidisation off things before welding and brazing stuff .......
