Hello I'm new.

My father has just been diagnosed with being on the cusp of diabetes type 2. He is yet to see a dietician and has very little knowledge about what foods etc he should eat. On top of that he is likely to just run away from anything he regards as "diet" or "healthy" food. He is a very private person so won't tell friends or even family members about this which of course will make it even harder for him to stick to certain foods when in public.

I would like to put together a recipe book for him of meals that I think he might actually like and cook. They need to be simple, meat-based and tasty (spicy is fine). Does anyone have any ideas? Should they be low fat or not? How much carbohydrate is allowed?

Thanks.

I'd recommend getting a book about the GL (Glycaemic Load) diet. You can have a healthy, varied diet, it just takes planning and a bit of compromise here and there. Nothing is forbidden, but common sense needs to be applied for 'treats'!

I found The GL Diet for Dummies a useful introduction 🙂

try the bean hot pot

Hi

I posted a sausage and bean hot pot on line a while ago

if you take the sausage and bacon out you can use it as a base for a range of dishes add beef - fish - pork - chicken - turkey
