Just watching this:

Beats listening to politicians any day. You can give up after Devi Sridhar if you want.

I was surprised at how Alex Thomas agreed with many that trying to control Track and Trace centrally is not a good think .He also suggested that for future Pandemic planning they need to think out of the box, instead of planning for the one they had just been through.

It wouldn’t be thinking outside the box. Inside that particular box was the normal army of public health workers ready to do local foot slogging tracing and testing. The government in England didn’t even discuss considering them as part of their world beating system. So they thought out of the box and employed outside companies with no experience, at a cost of billions without any penalty clauses, but good mates with the government.

In Scotland the exact opposite occurred. They used the already trained and experienced folk in public health to run the trace and test, and it didn’t cost billions. Or even millions. And it worked very well once they were up and running, to the extent that it revealed a serious flaw in test and trace. It won’t pick up the asymptomatic spreaders.

Honestly, I would be cautious about lionising Scotland's approach to the pandemic. We have inflicted the same long term damage to our economy but with roughly the same infection and death rates as England. We continue to suffer from illogical and nonsensical sets of rules. We're not much different.
The big difference up here is the incredible levels of public support Sturgeon commands, even amongst opposition voters.

Whether you like her politics or not you have got to admit Sturgeon is very impressive when speaking. When asked a question she answers it directly having actually listened to it and you never get a half relevant pre prepared response. Also, when she starts to say something she knows exactly how she is going to finish - none of this making it up as you go along waffle.

I watched a Defense Committee last week as much as I don't like the Defense Minister , at least he was articulate and seemed to know what he was on about. Had had got the Military to do some Exercises for winter resilience and done them some months ago.

Sturgeon is respected up here because she displays genuine empathy with the people she leads, whether they voted for her or not.

Boris is clearly only interested in Boris.

I agree totally with the comments about Nicola Sturgeon and her clarity of speaking. And I’m still a member and pay my dues to the SNP despite having had to move to England. I still plan to go back, if the neuro consultant reckons I’ve got enough time left.
