Hi Elaine - looking at your daughters age and your comment that they tend to come in clusters lasting a week - could their be a menstrual connection (you have probably already considered it - but putting it out there just in case).

Whatever the cause keep plugging away - I would hope that the Drs will do all the tests they can to get to the bottom of things.

Thanks Margie, we did think it was her menstrual cycle in the beginning but it has since been ruled out. She was told it was just hormones and we would have to deal with it each month. Dealing with it meant her going unconscious several times in a week and me staying up the whole night doing hourly checks - not that easy to deal with!! I keep latching on to different ideas and convincing myself what else it may be - I think the Doctors think I have that munchauson biproxy illness (however you spell it!!)

Still, we keep plodding on - you have no choice do you. 🙂

Diabetes can manifest itself in many different guises so it's always worth looking into possibilities however unlikely they may seem. Just in our (relatively) small community here over the years I have heard stories of many puzzling and rare forms that are difficult to pin down and treat. I hope you find the solution to Kate's problems soon 🙂

I wonder if Kate is a "special case" warranting a Continuous Glucose Monitor. That way you won't have to stay up and test her every hour in the night. They are very difficult to get hold of, hence me calling Kate a "special case"

Hi Monica, when things were at there worst we were given a continuous glucose meter to use for a couple of weeks. We didn't get on with it to be honest. It alarmed virtually all night and we both got less sleep than if I'd been up doing hourly checks. It wasn't fast enough to alarm either, there was a day when we had been told that if the hypos started I was to get her to the childrens ward without delay so they could get blood while she was hypo. She became hypo, we drove 7 miles to our local hospital, we got to the childrens ward and as they took the blood she was in the low 2's having already treated it twice with lucozade. The monitor then alarmed with "forecast hypo alert" it was hilarious at the time, we all had a real laugh about it. There is a 15 - 20 minute delay between the plasma reading it gets and the blood glucose.

Good news tonight though, we have been to our GP who agrees that if antihistamines have made her well over the last 5 months then there is an underlying allergy issue. He is referring her to an allergy specialist for further tests. I hope they don't show up to Alfie - my little spaniel - otherwise I'll be looking for new home - for Kate that is not the dog!!!😉
