Ok I know when to give up. Since my diabetes diagnosis I have eaten a couple of squares of dark chocolate every evening. The %age has crept up to 90%. Today I purchased 95% bar and have just had a square. I think the expression is that it is an acquired taste....

I agree, I had some and absolutely hated it, yuk. However the 85% Lindt chocolate is really nice, only 5 carbs per two chunks and I have some each day, it eases any sweet cravings.
I have Cavalier Dark Chocolate. I thought I read it was 95% but it certainly doesn't taste bitter. However it is sweetened with Stevia, and more that 2 chunks has a marked laxative effect!!
@Felinia 95% is barely sweetened at all hence why most find it bitter, anything with Stevia is going to be sweet and I personally wouldn't touch it myself xx
It would appear that Cavalier is 85% cocoa Belgian chocolate sweetened with stevia. Might be worth a try.
I currently have the JD Gross 75% chocolate from Lidl. The salted caramel and raspberry varieties are both very nice and one large square is 5.2g carbs, so that makes a nice occasional treat. If I break a square into 4 it goes further by eating each quarter with a spoonful of peanut butter which makes it more satisfying, so one square might last me several days. Naughty I know.... but nice!
I bought the 95% JD Gross, after a heads up from someone on this forum, but I’ve met my match, it’s too bitter for me (and has a dry and crumbly texture, I find) I’ll be sticking to my favourite Lindt 90% in future, which I stock up on whenever I see it on offer in Waitrose or Sainsbury’s (normally one of them's got an offer)

Some friends picked up (and paid for) hotel chocolate advent calender with wait for it...100% dark chocolate! They were told it was not for the faint hearted! They offered me a square, I'd just had a brew but having tossed this piece of chocolate in mi gob it sucked all the moisture out of my mouth, it was vial, i threw the rest away...for me that is unusual....never again i have learned something here!!

I am still soldiering on with the 95% and it gets no better. In the spirit of treating myself as a living experiment I am going to try 100%. I knew Montezma sell it and thank you I now find I can buy it at Hotel Chocolate .
I have 100% single origin from Peru chocolate bars from M&S.
I love bitter tastes so I am lucky.
The 90% bars from Lindt taste overly sweet to me these days.
I use the 100% bars in cooking when making chocolate cake and mousses.
Pre diagnosis I always loved dark chocolate. Well, what I thought was dark chocolate ie Bournville, which is actually only 36%! I’ve had to train myself to like, firstly 70% and I’ve now worked my way up to 85%, preferably Green and Black. I can’t tolerate any higher. On Christmas Eve I was making my annual tiramasu, the recipe calls for dark chocolate but the family can’t handle it too dark so I bought Bournville. Of course I had to have a square ( or three) I really thought it would be sickly sweet.OMG! It was blooming lovely!
