Hi @Whiff64, how are you feeling after having had the official diagnosis?
With regards to the 800 calories diet this is one of the main methods to help put your type 2 diagnosis into remission. You can read more in our remission area about this and other methods too: https://forum.diabetes.org.uk/boards/#type-2-remission-information-and-support.46 and information on our website here: https://www.diabetes.org.uk/about-d...emission/meal-replacement-plans-for-remission

Edit - many forum users have discussed the 800 calories diet in this part of the forum: https://forum.diabetes.org.uk/boards/forums/community-chat-with-people-about-remission.48/

It can certainly be overwhelming and naturally you won't be able to take it all in at once. There's plenty of support on this forum to guide you. If you have any questions just ask away. Do you know what your latest HbA1c is (the one that's triggered the diagnosis)?

@Leadinglights often signposts to https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/ but there's many approaches people take. At this stage, you're probably wanting to understand what this all means and then take a look at different diet options/approaches.

@Whiff64 I have a copy of the Fast 800 recipe book, provided by a niece who used it with gestational diabetes and thoroughly recommended it. I don't actually follow the diet as I wasn't overweight when diagnosed and I am definitely not overweight now (accidentally lost a stone when I moved to a low carb diet :D ). I can say that the recipes are tasty and easy to make so much so that my wife and I often enjoy a meal on a frequent basis (the curries are nice and the salmon and broccoli is fantastic). We have also served the meals to guests who have really enjoyed them.
The book also includes menu planners so you can easily arrange what you want to eat and when.

@Whiff64 when first diagnosed in July I cut out the naughty stuff and effectively went low carb. The weight fell away ( steadily) I was eating between 80 and 120 gms carb. In September I was put on an SGLT2 which works on carbs and so I upped the carbs. I have lost more than 2 stone and would like to lose another stone. Basically stop or reduce any sugar you take on cereal or in drinks. Some people use sweetners. Note down what you are eating then decide what you want to stop, what you will reduce portion size and what you will replace eg edamame bean pasta or cauliflower rice or celeriac for potato. I eat bread occasionally and potatoes occasionally. I've stopped pasta. Meat fish and most veg are fine. I now have full fat Greek yoghurt with berries nuts or seeds for breakfast. Tropical fruit is sweet and best avoided or eaten in small portions. I don't usually look at calories but carbs turn to sugar so if you are reducing carbs and sugar you will reduce calories. On packaged food look under nutrition. I was 69 when diagnosed and 44 in December but am on medication. Up amount of water you drink and move more be it stretching gardening or walking. Veg below ground eg carrots is more starchy than above ground. Perhaps have two helpings of non starch to one of starchy. I still have a pastel de nata or a small piece of cake once a month. If you want chocolate dark is better. Eat mindfully.
The freshwell site/app is good. This site has ideas too.
This site in the New Forest is good. On left hand side under websites are links to Freshwell Moseley and Caldesi.

I'm assuming if no medication you have only just dipped into diabetes. Good luck

Thanks for all info waiting for more bloods to come bk this week including if I have celiac ditto add to everything else so will look at diet again once tht all sorted this info is great though some great help from
Everyone thanks you

I did do the fast 800 diet a few years ago despite being type 1. It was a good way for me to lose weight without going low frequently as I did on other diets. I actually found after the first 3 days that I had loads of energy, my BG was very stable and I felt good. I lost 1.5 stones before I stopped the diet. The book is very informative, it's worth a read even if you then decide it's not for you.

Although she didn't do 800 cal diet my wife went on a Slimming World diet & just over a year lost 5 stone, this was after she was told she was prediabetic.

No doubt total weight loss helped but probably losing visceral fat around organs helped reverse diagnosis, that was 7 years ago now & bloods since have been normal thankfully.
