Do you bolus as you would for other foods with cous cous? x
Yes, I find as part of a mixed meal, with a piece of protein and some veg, it works the same as if I was having pasta or potato, I calculate the carbs and it seems to balance out. ( They seem to work for me, rice I have a problem with, but I think that's my fault, as I tend to eat rice as a risotto, or an accompaniment to a seafood sauce, where there tends to be larger ratio of rice, and less protein to slow the whole thing down)
Green lentils also work for me. I tend to boil them for half an hour ( unsalted, salt toughens them) drain them, then chuck them in a casserole with some onion and sausages ( browned first) and tinned tomato and shove the whole thing in the oven for an hour. They do tend to be a bit slower going in to the system, I only bolus at the last minute. But you could always have half a slice of bread with it, to mop up the sauce, and have the effect of balancing up the speed of absorption of the meal.
I know experimenting is a big deal for you, I'm not suggesting you try and do everything at once, but if you could add in a little bit of something new, say, a tablespoon of couscous instead of one of your potatoes, and when you're happy that you've got the insulin dose and timing right, then try a larger portion. Similarly lentils, cook a portion, and put it in the fridge, then try a tablespoonful of it with a meal, note the effect, and then have some more the next night. Both are cheap enough that if you waste a bit of it, it's not going to break the bank.
