I am due for my 6 monthly check up this month. I haven't had an appointment through and so I phoned to get an appointment sorted. The 1st appointment they could give me is november. As I am on a pump I am really worried that I will have my pump taken off me as 6 monthly checkups are needed when on a pump, but surely it is not my fault.

It has never been said to me that having a pump is dependent on 6-monthly checkups. I started in November, and had a 'Pump clinic' at the end of June, but I thought this was an annual thing.

I certainly don't see that they could threaten to take your pump away for apppointment delays that are out of your control. Where did you get the impression that it might be a worry?

I can't imagine that your pump is under threat - it's hardly your fault that you haven't been offered an appointment. If it is seen as necessary it ought to be built into their scheduling system. Did they give any explanation why you hadn't been given an appointment?

6 monthly check ups are not needed whilst on a pump. 🙂
I've been on a pump for 5 years and have never had a check up.

I was also told that I need to attend the appointments if I want to keep my pump, and they are scheduled every six months. Saying that, I had to reschedule one because I was ill, and the next one they gave me was six months later, but that might be because I had already had my blood tests done and they were all fine. At my clinic I make the next appointment before I leave - did you leave without seeing the receptionist perhaps?

It has occurred to me, I must admit, that if I don't turn up, how will they get the pump off me? But then again, they could stop paying for the consumables so I'd be over a barrel really.

Apart from the blood tests, I have not found the clinics helpful at all, in fact I feel as if I am giving them more information than I'm getting. The consultant did discover my thyroid problem though, although I guess I'd have gone to the GP eventually.

After speaking with the d secretary, this morning, and being told no appointments until november, when I am due to see them this month, within a few minutes I got a phonecall offering me an appointment on friday. It is the only day I can't go, as have other health appointment on that day. I got quite upset on the phone and the lady I was speaking said she would have a word with the d dr I see and phone me back. Within a few minutes she offered me an appointment wednesday morning. That one will be fine for me. Isn't it aweful that you have to get really upset to get anything done. I have felt really stressed and tearful all day. I will make sure that they make my next appointment before I leave this one.

I saw diabetic dr in clinic today, after a mix up with my appointment. All went well and he seemed pleased with my bg's etc. He said that he would be sending me to a pump review, which is a new appointment with pump nurse and pump rep. Does anyone else attend one of these. I am paranoid about having my pump taken off me, even though dr said It would not be taken away.

I don't think you need to worry about it being taken away, unless you really don't look after yourself - for example if you don't test enough and repeatedly end up in hospital with ketoacidosis! If, like most of us, you find that your diabetes control improves hugely as a result of getting the pump, it's in the interests of everyone for you to keep it as your long term costs (ie treating complications) will be minimised.

I've answered your other post about the regular pump checks. Please come back if you have any other questions, but please don't worry!

Spirit,
will you stop worrying about having your pump taken away 😡
Very few pumps are ever given back or taken away.
If they are taken away it's due to non compliance.(Which doesn't apply to you)
