Any thoughts? I feel quite rough and have had to drop my my basal by 30% just under 36 hours ago and keep it this low. Bolus still normal and eating normal for me. Despite the basal reduction BG is mainly staying 4-6 but have had to eat to prevent hypos 2 or 3 times.

That's interesting, my daughter has been self isolating for a couple of weeks due to a confirmed case of Covid at her school, and she has been on 150% basal for most of that time just to stop her going sky high. Then a couple of days ago started going low a lot and we've now had to reduce it to 120% and I think it will still have to go down a bit more, perhaps back to 100%. I had just assumed that she needed the increase because she is stuck at home again and can’t even go for a walk this time; and I had just assumed that the decrease the last few days was because she is finally getting stuck into the school work that has been sent home for her and is using her brain again (she hates home schooling and really struggles with concentration). But maybe it's to do with the weather getting colder? Although normally she needs less insulin when it's hot and more when it’s cold so that doesn’t make sense either. These days I just tend to go with the flow and try not to worry about it too much, otherwise I’d drive myself mad!

Hello Amanda sorry you are feeling rough, I`ve had to adjust my Basal
constantly over the last month. It want down 50% now back up to 100%
the weather affects me dramatically and summer time is a constant battle,
may be worth running a bit higher and see if you feel better. xx

((((((HUGS)))))) I hope you feel much better soon

I am going to ask a question.

Some time during the first lockdown thought not at the beginning, we were all warned that ketones were appearing at much lower BGs than in the absence of Covid and advised to check check check.

Hence - for heaven's sake - CHECK!

I had a cold a couple of weeks ago and had a few days of fighting falling blood sugar until I lowered my basal. I’m pretty sure it was the cold causing it as I’ve had similar before. While some se high blood sugar, others really do cause lower blood sugar.

I hope you feel better soon. Take it easy and rest as much as you can.

Good suggestion Jenny @trophywench I tested it straight after your post and fortunately it’s fine at 0.3.
i have been a bit paranoid about Covid because I had a bit of a dry cough yesterday but Mark and I couldn't decide if met the criteria because it didn’t happen very often at all but it is there again today but again probably less than ten coughs since I got up this morning.. if it gets anymore regular or worse I will definitely phone the helpline. Although the only time I’ve been near anyone was for a blood test a week ago and Mark has gone out to put petrol in the car, but other than that has been fortunate to work at home.

Thank you everyone. I’m resting lots just kind of surprised as to why I’ve had to reduce my basal by 12 units for 24 hours at a time. I’ve hardly been out and the house is at the same warm temperature all year round. Hopefully if it‘s an infection or anything it will clear quickly and by itself. But until then I will keep an on levels and ketones. Thank goodness for my Libre and pump!

Its probably the weather. Colder weather nearly always sees a drop in basal needs. Autumn has arrived if you haven't noticed.

Thanks Sue. You might be right but apart from a blood test a week ago I haven’t left the house for weeks and the temperature in my house is a warm constant all year.

I usually expect colder weather to mean dose increases (YDMV and all that!). For me it's the summer and the warmer weather that makes me more insulin-sensitive. 🙂

For a cough to qualify as a suspected Covid one, it has to be dry, new to you (some people cough a lot anyway so that doesn’t count), and continuous. By continuous they mean for at least a hour, or at least 3 times within 24 hours (I presume they mean a fairly sustained coughing fit 3 times in 24 hours, and not just a couple of little coughs!)

After writing my last post Mark and I came to the conclusion that I‘m borderline for meeting the criteria for continuous cough and that it had been getting worse. The other consideration was that we’re both having flu jabs next weekend and although extremely unlikely that I have Covid I would hate to run the risk of affecting others. what Was really amazing was after going through quite a lot of questions online to book a test within 40 minutes of booking the test we’d got to the testing station in town and Mark was putting the thing up my nose and in my mouth a) that doesn’t sound quite right b) Mark did it for me because I’m a wimp :D It was only very, very slightly uncomfortable. We were told to phone the Covid line if I don’t get the results within 48 hours. Still rough with cough today but it’s no harm us self isolating whilst waiting for the test result because Mark can work from home. Hopefully test will be negative and I will be ok by the weekend to have my flu jab and then celebrating my birthday with Mark.

Hope you get a negative result and ASAP my lovely

Bruce has had them done twice now (the day he broke his wrist and the day of his op) and he says they aren't pleasant, he opted to have his throat done first as didn't want the swab back there after it had been up his nose lol
